How to Use a Forklift
Lift trucks are material handling machinery which could move loads. usually, these machinery are used in some industries to move heavy supplies in various settings such as warehouses, airports and supply companies. Anyone operating a forklift should be trained to cautiously utilize the machine. It is vital to be totally aware of one's surroundings while operating a forklift. Lift trucks are designed to run on gasoline, propane, diesel or batteries. Standard lift trucks are common in various commercial applications and are not difficult to utilize with proper training. The following steps outline the basics of operating a lift truck:
1 Familiarize yourself with the levers which will be used to maneuver the load and to move the item from one location to another. The levers can be found to the steering wheel's right side.
2 The first lever controls the down and up movement of the forks. Pushing the lever away from your body moves them down and pulling the lever towards your body moves the tines up. Blades should be kept near the ground except when unloading or loading.
3 The two other levers work to control the blades movement left and right and to control the tines tilt. The blades are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is better that you practice before picking up a load. Using the second lever, push it away from your body to tilt the forks forward, and pull it towards your body to tilt the tines back.
4 The third lever is moved side to side to control the movement of the forks from right to left. Just move the lever in the direction of where you would like the blades to move: left in order to move the forks left, and right to move the forks right.
5 Always approach a cargo carefully. Lower the blades and drive forward carefully until the blades slide under the cargo. Afterward lift the tines several centimeters by pulling the lever towards you. If the cargo is top-heavy, you should tilt the forks backwards a little for balance.
6 Safe driving regulations comprise slowly taking corners and honking to warn pedestrians or other personnel that the lift truck is approaching. Approach the area where you will be working with caution. Control the levers to maneuver the load to where it is going. When the cargo is placed, reverse gears and cautiously back away.
7 Forklifts stop in much the same way as other vehicles. The brake is located to the left side of the accelerator. When stopped, shift the gear into "park."
