Skyjack Safety
A scissor lift is a specialized type of industrial machinery which is used for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," according to Skyjack. Anybody who is preparing to operate this particular type of machine should familiarize themselves with the recommended operational and safety procedures suggested by the manufacturer in order to stay safe before trying to use this equipment. It could be devastating to any bystanders and the operator themselves causing serious injuries if the safety recommendations are not followed.
Area
In the best case scenario, the scissor lift will be used on completely level ground. Prior to driving a scissor lift over a certain terrain, the area needs to be inspected and cleared of any debris. In order to lessen the possibility of the scissor lift tipping over and probably causing the operator to fall from his seat. It is recommended to avoid holes or steep grades while operating. Bystanders should also remain aware and avoid the operating scissor lift in order to ensure they do not get run over.
Inspection
The user needs to carefully check all vital parts of the device prior to attempting to utilize a scissor lift. A functional test performed while the lift is retracted allows the operator to see if all parts are properly functioning before the task is initiated. It is recommended to complete a daily inspection on this equipment prior to starting the shift and some places even want an inspection to take place at the end of the shift also. Various businesses have different policies in place to maintain safety.
Part of the inspection needs to be checking over the tires. These parts obviously add to the scissor lift's movability and also provide the machine with a solid foundation. A faulty or worn tire could blow and throw the operator from their place on top of scissor lift.
