During 1842, Inventor Jerome Increase Case founded Case in Racine. He started building threshing machinery. The company later gained worldwide recognition as the initial builder of steam engines for its agricultural use. Case had established themselves in the construction machine industry by 1912. They became a producer of road building machines including steam rollers and road graders. Case grew their construction machine company through different acquisitions, beginning with the American Tractor Corporation during the year 1957.
